# What documents must a tribe submit with a gaming ordinance for federal approval? Answer in under 90 words, be extremely concise. Cite only eCFR (www.ecfr.gov) sources.

Under 25 CFR 522.2, as published at 90 FR 46755 (Sept. 30, 2025), a tribe must submit a Chair-directed package including a certified ordinance, background-investigation procedures for key employees and primary management officials, tribal licensing procedures under § 558.3, and—for Class III—an approved tribal-state compact or Secretary-prescribed procedures, plus agent-for-service designation, fingerprint entity identification, and an FBI criminal-history-check procedure.

## Details / How it works

Per 25 CFR § 522.2, a tribe submits its ordinance package to the Chair via electronic or physical mail. Section (g) further allows the Chair to request, at discretion, Indian lands, tribal gaming regulations, or environmental and public health and safety documentation, and the tribe has 30 days to respond.

## Numbers & thresholds

| Requirement | Reference | Source |
|---|---|---|
| 30-day response window for Chair-requested additional documentation | § 522.2(g) | 25 CFR 522.2 |
| Federal Register publication | 90 FR 46755, Sept. 30, 2025 | 25 CFR 522.2 |

## Exceptions & edge cases

Class III ordinance submissions trigger the additional compact or Secretary-prescribed procedures requirement under § 522.2(d). The Chair's discretion under § 522.2(g) is the only flexible element; all other items in §§ 522.2(a)–(f) are mandatory.
